In Praise of Shame

Unpopular opinion time

I don’t give a rat’s arse about Glee.

My dash is constantly full of stuff about Glee which usually involves 29475673832856348378739473 gifs of x character’s face. Great.

I’m considering unfollowing queersecrets because it’s essentially becoming Glee-secrets and I don’t have a clue what they’re talking about. Yes, I’ve gotten through lots of deeply offensive secrets without hitting the unfollow button, but I don’t know if I can handle one more fucking secret that makes reference to Glee.

If you follow me and are a Glee fan, I’m not trying to hate on your favourite tv show, but the Glee hysteria is really becoming tiresome for everyone else. I understand why some queer people (particularly gay/lesbian cis people, mostly teens from the USA) see Glee as being such a big deal, but frankly I’m getting so annoyed with the fixation tumblr has with it that I’m starting to despise it. Also, it hasn’t exactly been flawless in it’s portrayal of queer people, since it’s included all kinds of questionable shit from cissexism to biphobia. I just think people should stop acting like it’s the most amazingly perfect and wonderful show of all time.

Tumblr.

Lol just kidding. I have two best friends. The first I’ve known since childhood and his name is Ted. He’s awesomely fun but one of the least reliable people ever. However, I’ve learnt to accept it as part of his charm. The second is called Halley and I’ve known her for three years. I’m totally comfortable with talking to her about pretty much anything. They’re both the kind of people I can see myself being friends with for a very, very long time.

Right now I’m drawing a blank when it comes to people who inspire me (though there are loads, as soon as I get asked questions like this I can never think of a single one) so I’ll just go with one of the historical figures I admire the most, Hatshepsut. She was both a BAMF and a HBIC and the most successful female Pharaoh who started out as co-regent to her young stepson but then basically went wait fuck this I’m going to proclaim myself ruler and idgaf what you think about it. I aim to live my life with a similar fuck-the-haters-imma-do-what-I-want attitude.

Okay, this is kind of embarrassing but my current favourite song is the “I Want It All/We Will Rock You” mashup from the Sucker Punch soundtrack (the soundtrack was definitely the best part of that film imo).

Not much of a man, are you?

My partner’s father, a local sheriff, berated me at his dinner table for not knowing enough about vehicle maintenance. My lack of interest in cars does not define my identity. Made me feel alienated, marginalized, and intimidated. (via microaggressions)

This is how much I know about cars: my friend drove me to the shop in his mum’s very fancy expensive-looking convertible the other day and when I told my dad about it and he me asked what type of car it was, I said “… a cream coloured one?”

People often try to attribute my lack of knowledge on “masculine topics” such as cars, video games and sport (anyone else glad that the cricket world cup is over? My dad is a big cricket fan and we only have one TV in our apartment, I wasn’t thrilled) to me not really being trans. It’s so, so frustrating.

OKAY I PROMISE I WILL ACTUALLY DO THIS ONE.

The last time I posted one of these things, a few people put some in my ask box and I never responded because I hadn’t actually thought about what I would say. Herp Derp.

BUT I’LL DO THIS ONE I SWEAR.

You are *that* quality.

=3 awwwwwww.

I was totally expecting this message to be some nasty anon telling me to go and suck a fuck because I said something that they disagreed with, so this was a nice surprise. I’m so paranoid.

Gotta love how PETA sexually exploits women in their ads by having them pose naked or in lingerie, using porn stars and alluding to the fact that vegetarian women masturbate with vegetables. Maybe they should try to promote wearing cotton rather than the degradation of women by displaying them as sexual objects.

I agree with the comment, but I don’t think the phrase in the image that says “I’d rather wear fur than be objectified by PETA” makes any sense. It makes it sound as though you’re choosing between two things that are both detrimental to you, which is obviously not the case; wearing fur isn’t detrimental to you, it’s detrimental to the animal who was killed for that fur. It kind of makes it sound like you’re saying, “I don’t agree with how PETA campaign, so that makes it justifiable to wear fur”. Hey, guess what? You can despise PETA and also vow to never wear fur.
